My compaq desktop will not respond to me hitting the power on button?
I turned the computer off to go to work. when i got home to turn it back on nothing happened. The light in the back is solid green where the power cord is but it will not respond to me hitting the button. I have no idea what could be wrong or how to fix this. ive heard to replace the power supply from a friend whos a girl, but i want to know if someone has had this problem and what they did to fix it.
If you hear no noises at all (fans, beeps, clicks, etc.), when you push the power button, it is very likely your power supply. The BIOS has nothing to do with it. Even without the battery that helps your MB retain BIOS settings, the computer would still start.
If it has one, make sure that the on/off switch on your power supply (PS) hasn't been accidently turned off (look next to the PS fan on the back of your computer). It's a small switch marked 0/l, and should be in the "l" position.
Some PSs have small fuses inside that blow, and can be replaced, but most likely you need a new PS. They're pretty cheap, these days, and you can get them on sale, too. They're not that hard to replace, either. Good luck. If you need help with it, buy a geek a beer.
PS--Make sure the power cord is plugged all the way in, at both ends...
